10 months of unemployment - 12 months of a high tech startup doing Sr. Global Support Eng for MAID company. In April the VC funding was cut and I'm back on the streets looking for the next gig.
Me and 10M other people unemployed! The unemployment rate is 10%! I'm sitting in MN doing remodel projects for family. I can't believe there isn't a job some place that needs a hardware tech with 15 yrs of experience.
Dam, it's tough getting old.

More Interviews = waste of time
Can you believe that I've gone on 4 interviews, different companies all with the intention of hiring me for a position. As the number of interviews go on for each position, the likelihood of being offered a job increases. So with eternal optimism burning in my soul, what do you think happens next?
"I'm sorry, the position has been closed", says the recruiter. Now I've wasted my time, money and resources on some manager that can't decided whether they actually need another Engineer or not; or maybe some CEO decided they would rather have their bonus than waste money on an open rec.
Whatever! Hang in there my fellow Geeks, Obama has the house and Nancy Pelosi is riding shotgun. How bad can it get? Just look at the Economic Stimulus Package the Dems approved and passed.

Dell
Hey people,
I've been reading the positions available at Dell; They were looking for someone with a storage background, testing and development; customer experience, etc.....
I thought since I had assisted in the design of an ASIC for Enterprise Storage, Certified as a SAN Technologist, installed and configured HBA's and firmware updates.... MAYBE I MIGHT BE QUALIFIED.
Not so my fellow Geeks.... I applied for several spots in Round Rock and Austin - not even a rejection letter. What the hell?? I know people in Dell and used their name as a reference - still no response. WTF.

First Tongue Lashing
LSI Logics; what a joke!
They want a person with SAS/SATA/SCSI/FC/iSCSI experience. Must be able to program C++, design boards, customer presentation and interface, travel 50+% and have a Masters degree.
All this for a customer support position..... Give me a freekin break.
They're advertising for positions weekly. The lame duck in CO Springs that does the interview process is too busy to review the resume that lands on his desk.

Sr. App Job Search
Hey Gang,
This intro is chronicling my job search.
As we tool along the highway of life, I'm going to mash and trash some of the companies I've applied for employment at.
Why would I do that, you may ask?! I'm bitter, I'm angry, I'm feeling discriminated against!
Sooo, I have a couple of reasons for doing this; You young guys out there, just starting your career, take it from an old dog, this may not be the dream job you think. For you old guys out there, hang on to whatever you're doing. The corporations are sucking in the new interns and recruits for your replacement at a cheaper pay rate. I'm sure the CEO's need a bigger bonus....
See ya soon.
